What a master he was. I last saw him in San Antonio, not long before he passed, when he told a TV reporter it took him 2 hours to achieve this makeup.
Cecil B. DeMille, the story goes, first titled him "Blinko", and Ernie copyrighted the name. He said many new clowns pled for the secrets to apply the glitter and the famed eyelashes, but he never gave away the act.

Ernie & some of his balloons
graced the program cover of
Abe Polen's Circus America
at the Capitol Center Arena
just outside Washington DC
in the circus wars of 74
Ernie was also a master
balloon manipulator
And he enjoyed an impressively long run at Circus Circus, out here in Vegas.
