I saw Hugo Zacchini for the first time on King Bros. Circus (Floyd King's Show) in the early fifties. He stood on the cannon and crossed himself before entering the barrel....His wife worked the controls and they had a large dog (maybe German Shepherd) who went nuts when Hugo entered the cannon barrel. He barked and jumped around and when the shot was made...he ran straight to the net to greet Hugo. I was always impressed by that....pure showmanship.
