BOBBY: Charlie was my great pal at Jungleland, and my advocate for taking the Fighting Lions out for his partnership on Miller-Johnson. When our wives didn't behave, we'd take off from Thousand Oaks with a case of beer and sleep overnight on Malibu Beach. They'd be hopping mad when we got home, and they got madder when we laughed at them.
Charlie had Zulu on the jungle set, on Stage 21, at 20th Century-Fox, for DR. DOLITTLE. One day, Zulu wranged up, and we had 6 lassos on him. I had hold of his halter, when he snapped loose and caught half my hand in his teeth. He was about to tear my hand off when I jerked free, leaving my torn glove dangling from his teeth. My respect for zebras has never been forgotten.
HE WAS A TOUGH ONE FOR SURE !! I JOINED UP TO WORK FOR CHARLIE AFTER I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AND HAVING BEEN A RODEO COWBOY I THOUGHT I COULD HANDLE ANYTHING . I LEARNED THE HARD WAY BUY BITING HIM ON THE EAR TO GET CONTROL TO GET HIS SHOTS. I LEFT A TOOTH BEHIND AFTER THAT.
