This was the 1933 edition of RBBB. Chris Berry wrote a fascinating article in BANDWAGON last year about the background on the Ringling show returning to play Baraboo in their centennial year
Good point, CHIC, for a guy 76. I have questioned why 1933 if the boys are considered to have kicked things off in 1884? The highly collectible Gold Cards, honoring the 7 big names in the title, and selected performers, were prominent, or at least still used, in 1934. So what is the official 50th year, '33 or '34?
CHRIS'S exquisite work details Baraboo putting in for RBB's return for '33, and Sam Gumpertz agreeing. The town was still smarting over the show's move to Bridgeport. Turns out, the show went "home" for a one-day stand, and Baraboo celebrated their fleeting moment as best they could.
