"Pass Exchange" is a gentle way of meaning Tax Box. People with passes thought it meant totally free admission, and there was often serious heat when told there were taxes to be paid. Whatever the show could get away with, these included city, county, state, and federal fees, and those who had allowed circus ads to be put up became outraged. On the Beatty show, I saw Miss Edna handle that spot with more grace than I could have. On the old shows, Terrell Jacobs, a master at cutting money, told the owners, "Don't bother with my salary. Give me the Tax Box."
On the Beatty show, the concession guys like these had to help on canvas, including both rag-outs before the shows. If they missed, they could not work the seats for what, Chic--the next show, or the next day?

Or thrown off the show Roger
Forced labor known as "Chinese"
was how butchers were obligated
to do many tasks including the
"bibles" & bleachers
The 2nd best money maker
after the tax box was the
number 1 inside ticket box
Tommy Clarke had that for
many years on Beatty along
with the "Blue Room" which
was another "soft" generator
