For decades, I daydreamed about parking a private car like this on some ideal siding, and being very content with it for a home. I learned of Palace Cars, but Private Varnish is a new term to me.
If such a home was not to be, I still loved the old rail cars serving as Diners.
I rode in this car when it was attached to the Great Circus Train. The photo does not show it but it has a dome atop.North Star was then owned by a Wisconsin chap who was a major highway contractor.

Cars in this class are
known as Private Varnish
North Star was once owned by Wisconsin Southern and was used on the Milwaukee circus parade train during the late 90's, early 2000's.

I nursed that same dream
for many years Roger but
finally came to my senses
Private Varnish refers to
restored collectible cars
Bello bought a Blue coach
from Feld & has it on a
few feet of display track
in his vast East side yard
His ample acreage slightly
East of I-75 is well named
"The Funny Farm"
The American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners has a great magazine "Private Varnish". The magazine is full of great photos.
I heard about a US Navy sailor, that had a private car and parked it next to the Pentagon when he was assigned there.
