Captain George Keller's Jungle Killers. That pole was centered to hold up his net. Keller died in the ring of a heart attack, in Corpus Christi, and his assistant, Bill Scamihorne not only took over the act, but also married the widow, Ginny. He worked as Bill Horne.
On June 8, 1971, long-time act assistant Al Lapchak, a friend of mine, died when the cat truck hit a landslide on a mountain highway, in Colorado. The wrecked truck overturned and several animals escaped. One tiger had to be shot, and other cats darted. It was said some escaped into the wilderness and were never found. Al was 50. The act was never restored for performance.
Worked a season on Rudy Bros. with them in 1963. Ginny, Bill and Al were all great folks. We even spent a break at their ranch in Cornell Ca. I really enjoyed being friends with them.
