During her marriage to Eddie Trees, Mabel Stark had an African Gray. Eddie was a long-time menagerie superintendent on the big shows, and a top cat man that Mabel took to in later years. They had quite a colorful relationship, and the parrot added to the scene, constantly screeching, "Eddie! Ed-dieee! Get over here!" One day the parrot went missing, and Mabel was forever suspicious that supper that night was Cornish game hen, as Eddie claimed.
Parley Baer and Ralph Edwards established Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters. Edwards' show, THIS IS YOUR LIFE, originally on NBC Radio, featured stars who were supposed to be surprised that their life was the program that night. Parley set up the episode honoring Mabel, and booked all her guests, who introduced themselves from a hidden mic backstage. When Eddie Trees spoke, Mabel didn't recognize his voice, and Eddie laughed at her about it the rest of his life.

A Sulpher Crested Cockatoo
driving an African Gray
African Grays are some
of the best talking birds
My cousin the late clown
Mike Bourbon had one
Another great talking bird
is the Mynah that Ron & Mitzi
Gill had that drove everyone
nuts as it kept screaming the
name of their dog Kimo which
could be heard through much
of the Beatty backyard
Sulpher Crested Cockatoos
are as common & plentiful
in a few big Sydney parks
as pigeons in New York
They are loud screechers
African Grays can be great talkers and as cranky as all get out at times. We had one that would drive you crazy.
