Allan Herschell Sky Wheel

Royal American Shows had two space wheels (side by side) but they were joined as a single ride. Built by the Velare Brothers. After leaving Royal American Shows, this ride went thru two or three owners. Drew Exposition (Jimmy Drew) purchased the ride several years ago had it completely refurbished. The ride was debuted at the North Georgia State Fair, Marietta, Ga last Season in September 2018. Maybe one of a kind and the Drew Family deserves a big thank you for saving this historical piece of equipment.

The Sky Wheel shown looks like it may be on Belle City Shows...You can make out part of the name on the equipment shown.

Back in 1960 the year before

I became aware of "The Circus"

& jumped in with both feet I

spent a summer season as the

assistant electrician on the

Reithoffers Shows main unit

There I learned to drive semi

operate & sync generators as

well as to be "generally useful"

Many of the things I learned

have been great help throughout

my years both as a stagehand as

well as a circus ShowBum (yet still)

I believe the Velare Wheels had

their tubs outside the main frame

They were after my time but they

looked magnificent on any lot

I seem to have better recall of 1960

than of any of the last year or 3
