Welcome to Buckles Blog. This site is for the discussion of Circus History all over the world.
Sort of related: I saw Hank and Sandra Thompson in the sideshow on King Bros. Circus. Hank threw knives at his wife as she spun around on a solid wheel. As a young lad, this was quite impressive....This was in early fifties that I saw them...
We had a knife throwing routine in the recent Broadway revival of "Annie Get Your Gun" with a stunning actrss Nicole Snelson standing spread eagle in front of a teepee with Andy Palermo as the Indian knife thrower I designed & built 9 gimmicks that popped the knives from behind as Andy palmed them The knives in his fan array were captive as they were riveted at their points so they could close 1 per throw I taught him the downstage arm overhead motion which allowed him time to keep palming the same knife as he used his upstage hand to manipulate the fan I still have those gimmicks We had many circus elements including a unique trapeze
My Playbill credits were "Circus Rigging & Special Effects"
I'd be proud of that one if I were you.

We had a knife throwing routine
in the recent Broadway revival
of "Annie Get Your Gun" with a
stunning actrss Nicole Snelson
standing spread eagle in front
of a teepee with Andy Palermo
as the Indian knife thrower
I designed & built 9 gimmicks
that popped the knives from
behind as Andy palmed them
The knives in his fan array
were captive as they were
riveted at their points so
they could close 1 per throw
I taught him the downstage
arm overhead motion which
allowed him time to keep
palming the same knife as
he used his upstage hand
to manipulate the fan
I still have those gimmicks
We had many circus elements
including a unique trapeze
My Playbill credits were
"Circus Rigging & Special Effects"
I'd be proud of that one if I were you.
