Ned Potter, for many years the top man for Dave Hoover, and Chico, long the Cat Department Dog. When transition came for the Hoover act, Ned and Cindy moved into Assistant Manager positions over there.
For new readers, it was traditional for circus departments to troupe their own mascot, usually a highly territorial dog, who not only represented the men in that department, but also served as a most formidable guard for their spot on the lot. Curious town dogs quickly learned better, and these department guardians further served to ward off the lot lice.
As many of you may know, Ned Had his left leg amputated just above the knee - 2 years ago, due to complications with diabetes. His overall health since, has been much better! He will be 72 this February and just as ornery as ever!!! He currently spends his days keeping our two spoiled rotten dogs "Stanley and Trixie" in their place! (or is that vice-versa???)
He became engaged in conversation regarding training lions and tigers with a new doctor one day. When they finally got around to the "health" portion of the visit the new doc said, "now what happened, here? (pointing to the missing leg.) Ned said, "I told you I used to work with lions and tigers!"
