Welcome to Buckles Blog. This site is for the discussion of Circus History all over the world.
Private dining in his uncle's private Pullman car the "Jomar" Jo (John) Ma (Mable) R (Ringling) The rusted out old carcas of the car sits behind what was the old Stottlemayer & Shoemaker lumber yard & now the property is owned by Harvey Vengroff who proposes building low rent apartments on the site & puts Bob's lunch train cars parked there in jeopardy The hulk of the Jomar was deemed well beyond restorable years ago which is why the Ringling Museum bought the "Wisconsin" to exhibit That was John Ringling's "loaner" awaiting the Jomar's completion but it was in great condition History depends on who tells it
In modern female priority correctness it would have been titled the "Major" (give that a thought) Not a bad title at that
Just learned that Harvey Vengroff died today which may put some of his projects in limbo however his 2 sons vow to continue the vision Harvey was a champion of low cost housing in Sarasota & Bradenton foe working class folks & he will be sadly missed
I knew I had lost track of efforts to preserve the Jomar. This is a sadness that might long ago have been avoided if stronger purpose had been served in time.
