A man at the screening event for PBS's THE CIRCUS, this past Thursday (20) night, asked me if Beatty was ever on Hamid-Morton. He needs to see this. I told him he was, indeed, in the 1939-1945 era of the Beatty Jungle Zoo, late of Fort Lauderdale. In '39, Beatty starred on George Hamid's Steel Pier, in Atlantic City, for the entire season, just before premiering the Jungle Zoo, on December 2nd.
Guess I better mention that event was held in New York City. The next such event is Monday (24), in St. Louis, and after that is Sarasota, on Tuesday (25). Then, the film books a long jump up to Portland, Oregon. Remember, our air dates are October 8 & 9.
And I better come back and remind everyone looking at this program, it's Clyde Beatty AND Hamid-Morton Combined Circus. The importance being, after Cole Bros. and Clyde Beatty Circus, 1935-1938, he had his name leading every circus title he was on for the rest of his life, and for 38 years after he died, it was still Clyde Beatty in front of Beatty-Cole.
