John Ringling brought Mabel over in 1922. She had to leave her previous tiger act on the Barnes show, and break an all-new group for Mr. John. She schooled 8 tigers and a black jaguar, whose name was the now p/c incorrect "N" word. She was a sensation, especially with the New York press during the Garden run. But Mr. John 86'd the steel arena for the seasons of 1925 through 1927, and despite Mabel's pleas, refused to release her contract. To her lasting disgruntlement, he assigned her to equestrian acts. Trouper that she was, she soldiered on and mastered the horse work. Ringling sent her to Bertram Mills's Olympia with Jupiter, the Ascension Horse. By 1928, Mabel was back with tigers on John Robinson Circus, and that season suffered one of her worst tiger attacks, in Bangor, Maine.
