Reminds me of the great spacecrafts, Challenger and Columbia, assembled in the super-secret plants in Palmdale, California. When these were respectively moved through the streets of Lancaster, the adjoining city, the throngs lined up for a memorable passing. One street became Challenger Way, and Lancaster's Avenue M was co-named Columbia. Both were on their way to neighboring Edwards Air Force Base, to be piggy-backed for the flight to Cape Canaveral.
On July 20, 1970, Lucy was moved from her original location on the beach to public beach property a few blocks away. Restoration began there and she is now preserved for the future public.
