A dear friend of mine, Anna, was a close associate producer on the JACKIE GLEASON SHOW. Gleason decided to move the program to Miami Beach, where the series was at last cancelled. When she returned to New York City, the first thing she wanted was to go with friends out to Coney Island. She told me she was heartbroken when they all refused to take her, saying Coney had been so badly run over by the criminal element, that to go was to be assured of a mugging. She said she cried for days, but found out it was true. I later heard Coney was part of the NYC clean-up directed my Mayor Rudy Giuliani. CHIC might know if the old Island is better today--?
I hope my friend, Anna, at last got to re-visit Coney.
I'm going back to NYC on the 20th, invited by Sharon Grimberg, and her Winter Pink Films, for the screening of the PBS circus special, and to participate in the following Q&A--a lot like was done this summer for the CHS doings. I'm among those interviewed. We'll be at the New York City Historical Museum, up at 77th and Central Park West, at 7 p.m., if you're in the neighborhood.
The documentary is in THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE series for PBS, in two 2-hour segments. It is titled THE CIRCUS - BIG TENT, BIG DREAMS. We have air-dates of October 8 and 9.

It has been well restored to much
of it's old glory but many of the
original elements are long gone
Certainly a safer family place
I'm told "Nathan's Famous" hot
dogs are $4.95 (but worth it)
The city has thrown both funds
& continued concern at it as
a prime tourist destination
The last of the historic wooden
roller coasters "The Cyclone"
came very close to demolition
but fortunately it was given
landmark status & was restored
The place still has plenty of
flat stores & alibi joints as
well as the cheap hanky panks
I hope my friend, Anna, at last got to re-visit Coney.

Sorry I'll miss you Roger
Wish I had known before
I'm headed to NY the 13th
but headed back home on
Monday the 17th on the
Amtrak Silver Star which
I find a nice alternate
to most of my flying
My pal AAron Waitz who works
with me on the Broaday shows
lives at 74th & Broadway
I'd like to see if there is
a possibility of you two
meeting up during that time
He could show you backstage
of the Gershwin Theater
That's where "Wicked" is
I'll mention that thought
with him tomorrow Roger
How long will you be there
