Elephant Colossus was a tourist attraction located on Coney Island in Brooklyn NY Built in the shape of an elephant This seven story structure was designed by James Lafferty & stood at Surf Avenue and West 12th Street from 1885 until 1896 when it burnt down During that time the building was used as a hotel concert hall and amusement bazaar It was the second of the three elephant buildings by Lafferty preceded by Lucy in Margate NJ only 2 miles from Atlantic City NJ and then followed by The Light of Asia in Cape May NJ
