CATS #5

Most likely. A man I knew finished out his arena career with an entire act of cut males, which he then advertised as lionesses. He later sold this act to another man, who also ended his career with it. Insiders know that the females are generally far more aggressive and threatening than the males, since in the field, the girls do most of the hunting, an instinct that never leaves them. Beatty and Jacobs both worked female lions in their acts, at times running them in at the height of their estrous, just for added sport. The iron-clad rule of the great masters held that trainers never alter their animals. Extending the viewpoint in her customary vocal terms, Mabel Stark told me that anyone who de-claws, de-fangs, or castrates the first animal, is no longer a wild animal trainer.
