In Lancaster, California, I became acquainted with James Cagney's nephew. The great old star was honored with a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for RAGTIME, but didn't win. The nephew told me Cagney was pleased to be asked to take a role in the picture, but by then barely knew his surroundings. He also told me Cagney and his brother William set up a special account, and an impressive roster of Cagney relatives receive annual checks from it to this day.

This 2nd Garden was designed by
Stanford White who maintained
an apartment in the tower until
he was shot to death by Harry
K Thaw on the roof garden due
to getting caught messing around
with Thaw's wife Evelyn Nesbit
All well portrayed in "Ragtime"

Mabel Stark kept this photo, and others of this Garden, in her personal albums.
