You got that right, Chic! Rode Amtrak last week and was 30 minutes late leaving Newport News (origin!) and 90 mins late arriving in DC. Return trip left on time but was an hour late arriving back in Newport News. Although Amtrak is at the mercy of CSX, it's still a pleasurable travel mode if "suggested schedules" are of no hindrance. Train was well maintained, clean and staff friendly. Onboard chow a tad pricey.

Dorton Arena in Raleigh on the NC State Fairgrounds. Many memories of the Strates Shows road office compound a stone's throw away.
Between Raleigh & Carey
I'll see it tomorrow morning
on my train ride headed up to
New York on "The Silver Star"
Love these train rides & they
keep my air travel to about
75 percent of the time
Theoreticaly between 8A & 9A
but the schedule is only a
mere suggestion

I'm on their "Silver Star" right now
Only about 35 minutes late so far
Amtrak only owns the trackage from
DC to Boston so all other travel
is 2nd class rental contracts with
several freight rail lines
DC to Boston is fully electrified
all other is by diesel electric
Here currently in central Florida
we're on REALLY rough track that
I'm sure some of you recall from
the Red & Blue trains
J S Dorton was 1 of those joints
where the matinees always looked
like hell due to all that glass
There were several others
Hard for me to type with all
this jerking & jumping around
We're approaching the location
of the 94 wreck site
