You can easily see the square nut that holds the wheel on the axle The expression used in both the circus & theater industries of "Making The Nut" is derived from the days when the shows wagon nuts were held as ransom for all local bills to be paid before the show could move on to the next town
"The Nut" currently refers to the weekly operating expenses before any commissions or profit
It also refers to several of my family members !
