The eleven guys on top - nine bandsmen and two teamsters - probably weigh a bit less than a ton. When you consider the trunks, traps and other supplies carried inside, the wagon was probably heavier on the train and enroute to/returning from the lot.

Oops, that should be weighed. Their current weight is substantially lower.
