I've always called Gil Gray's show a gem of the industry. It looked good on the lot, and always had strong acts. When Hubert Castle's father died, he inherited a vast parcel of land in a prime location in Dallas. He sold it, as he told me, for a killing, and I believe he kept his hand in when it was developed into the Casa Linda Shopping Center. In this time frame, Gil Gray retired, and Castle made the deal of his lifetime when he bought Gray's route, and launched his own show.

CASEY: You likely remember that Max Craig and Cleo Plunkett were sworn enemies. All any agitator had to do to start a Hey Rube in the backyard was mention one of their names to the other one.

CLEO ALWAYS THOUGHT HE WAS IN CHARGE OF THE SHOW BUT WE ALL KNEW IF YOU NEEDED A ANSWER TO ANY THING YOU WOULD ALWAYS ASK MAX FIRST !! AND LIKE ON THE CASTLE SHOW IF YOU NEEDED TO GET ANY THING TO HUBERT OR GIL YOU ONLY HAD TO TELL ONE OF THE DWARFS ie JIMMY ARMSTRONG OR RUDY AND JACK LANDRUS AND THEY WOULD GET YOUR MESSAGE WITH IN MINUTES .
