Well, let me add this. Lou did do a whiteface, just for photo ops--or whatever they called it then. It was this shot, in black-and-white, and seen far and wide, most extensively in newspaper ads. It is minus the Auguste face and the conical wig, but as a whiteface, is another example of clowns working other takes on makeup to add claims for a bigger Alley.
