As noted here on other pages, this is Felix Adler. Certain clowns were asked to work up faces other than their trademarks so the show might claim a bigger Alley. Personnel Director Pat Valdo made these approaches. He started out as a classic whiteface, but was so personable and respected on the lot, John Ringling gave him the promotion. Like Merle Evans, it was said of Valdo that he never made an enemy.
