That's when I knew her. As related here previously, Jack's mother, also named Ethel, was my neighbor on Crescent Way, in Thousand Oaks. She used to call up and tell Mabel Stark on me when I came home with a 12-pack or a pretty girl. When Ms. Joyce died, Jack and his Ethel came out and asked me to serve as pall-bearer. Afterward, Jack said, "Honey, we ought to get Roger over on the Ringling show with us. He'd do good over there." She happily agreed, and I never heard from them again.
