Interesting post here. The signature on this route card is by Charles Lockier from Auburn NY. His show name was Sunburst Charlie. He was a professional sign painter if I recall or at least had the talent.Charlie was also an EXCELLENT circus model builder and crafted beautiful scale model circus wagons in 1" scale.
He painted this show The John Pawling Ring Circus as he did the James M Cole Circus that wintered in Penn Yan NY. If I recall correctly, one show name preceded the other from the same equipment. Because of its ties to NY State, there was a very active circus model builders ring
located in Auburn NY that carried the name, The John Pawling Ring.Several gentlemen from this ring like Sunburst Charlie and Joe Myers were most helpful to James M Cole by helping get the tent show on the road each year "back in the day" by doing mechanical work, painting and carpentry work. They were circus fans that were with it and for it!
I was fortunate to have met Sunburst Charlie and enjoyed his work first hand.
