We all liked the main prop man on DR. DOLITTLE, Juan Lipero. He was a master of all a major feature film needed. His motto was, "You can't say 'No' to anything!" Juan was invited out to Thousand Oaks to create a new howdah for one of our 7 elephants. His work was exquisite, beautifully designed and realized. But he was a movie guy, not an elephant man, and he made this gigantic composition entirely out of 3/4" plywood, assembled with 1/2" bolts, and about the size of a four-door sedan. We had no way to hoist the thing aloft. Arky Scott and George Young found it so completely unwieldy it was quietly taken around back, disassembled, and the pieces found their way back into the lumber shed.
