Jack Badal at the LA Zoo. He purchased a small elephant in 1967 he named "Anna" and did an excellent job but for some reason sold her to Tijhini in Mexiso two years later. I might add that I came across one of my father's letters written over 50 years ago to the effect,"..... "Lots of activity here, Buckles recently married Rex Williams ex wife Barbara that included her little son Ben, a big Poodle dog named "Robert" and a chimpanzee named "Tommy"! Sometimes Ben and "Tommy" slept together in the overhead bunk and was extremely jealous of Barbara and soon she had to make the difficult decision of who to keep, me or ""Tommy"! As it turned out she returned him to Rex who later sold him to Helen Haag with whom we played some dates together! .....one day she told Barbara, "Please don't watch the act where "Tommy" can see you, he keeps looking for you during the act!" I told this story to the Elephant Crew at Circus World one day and they all started Razzing Ben saying, "Are you sure you got rid of the of the Right Monkey?" |

When we got Tommy William, he came with a full set of wardrobe, tenner shoes, rain coat, pajamas, you name it he had it. He slept in the bunk bed right over my bed, with Ben. I potty trained him. And when he had to go he started messing with his suspenders. So he did not even pee pee his pants. He loved his bath. And after the bath I would put his pajamas with the feet in them on him, then up he would go climb up to his & Ben's bed. And they would sleep until morning. My two little boys. Everyone always told me that I gave the boy away and kept the chimp. When we were in Clyde Bros. Circus winter quarters I would put Ben, Robert, Tommy Williams, out to play with the pet goat that had the run of winter quarters. And the first one to come running home was Tommy Williams, screeching for mama, and banging on the door wanting in the trailer. Robert, the goat, & Ben just got too rough for Tommy Williams. It was so funny at the time. I missed Tommy Williams so much. But he was too jealous of Buckles...Barbara...
