I was introduced to many
exotics at the Bronx Zoo
often during my youth
My wife & I have had the
pleasure of zoo visits
in many foreign lands
The Taronga Zoo across
the harbor in Sydney
Australia is fantastic
We were impressed with
the cleanliness & care
of animals in the old
but deteriorating zoo
in Guangzhou China
The King's "white"
elephants in Bangkok
were kept untethered
in the Dusit Thani Zoo
in an elegant but open
majestic structure
Belgium's Antwerp Zoo
is 1 of the oldest in
the world & is great
This is what used to be the Elephant House in the Bronx Zoo, a very special place in my heart. It has nor had an elephant or a rhino, or hippo in residence in years and has now been converted to house a Komodo monitor lizard exhibit. To say I am upset and disgusted would be a gross understatement. Sometime back Bronx Zoo/Wildlife Conservation Society officials announced that when their 2 Asian elephants die they will no longer exhibit elephants. MORE DISGUST!!
Reminds me of a comment I heard years ago!
"A Circus without an elephant is a Revue!
.....and a zoo without an elephant a Roadside Attraction!
Alas! The first statement proved True!
