Mabel worked the white stallion Jupiter for Bertram Mills, in the great Olympia production, by arrangement with John Ringling. She was denied her tigers when Mr. John cut cage acts for the seasons 1925-1927. He refused to release her from her contract, and assigned her to horse acts during what she described as "Those three damn wasted years."

Mabel returned to her tigers in 1928, on John Robinson. There, on May 31, in Bangor, Maine, she suffered one of her worst attacks, when tigers Zoo and Sheik inflicted critical injuries. 25-year-old Terrell Jacobs went in and fought the cats off Mabel, as Equestrian Director Robert Thornton came in to drag her out. Long story, but 6 weeks later, on July 12, Mabel rejoined the show in Columbus, Ohio, laid down her crutches, and worked the full act the rest of the season. This, fellow readers, is a Tiger Queen.
