When Buck left Ringling after the 1938 season, the Norths gave him three elephants, at least I think it was three, in lieu of paying him salary owed. Richard Reynolds should chime in on this as you will know the story far better than I.
You're leaving us hanging, 4pawfan. If Ringling didn't pay Buck, who did? We know he went over to Barnes-Sells Floto in mid-season with RBB features, but where did he pick up his pay? Now I'm curious as hell.

I think this was a display at the Worlds Fair.
Frank Buck's concession at the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair.

I have Buck's pay slips from 1938 and he wasn't paid by Ringling. The slips came from Buster Bailey's collection.
