Clyde Beatty wrote of the engagement failing badly due to a NYC newspaper strike. Outside the immediate neighborhood, almost no one in town knew the circus was there, even when featuring a return by the man who rocked the city on RBB from '31 to '34. He again scored big in New York on the 1937 Cole show in the Hippodrome, and that year won the March 29 cover of TIME magazine. But in '63, Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. in the NYC Coliseum lost its shirt.
