Peggy and Shorty Sylvester were mainstays on the Beatty show for years. Peggy was a mother-figure to the workingmen, and served as their banker. They would come to her with their meager wages, and she'd keep a dollar here, a dollar there, in envelopes with their names on them, encouraging them to have at least a few bucks come season's end. That being well and good, Peggy and Shorty were inveterate heat merchants and the damnedest agitators in the backyard.
