Mike Naughton said...: Miles Orton* married Mary Ann Cooke Cole, from a long established English circus family. He became the step-father of William Washington Cole who became one of the most successful showmen in the late 1880s. WW Cole was on the Orton show as a youth where learned the business side of the business. He started his own show, W.W. Cole which existed for only 16 years, he invested heavily in New York City real estate and died a multi-millionaire.
Poor Orton was divorced by Mary Ann because he ran off with a lady snake charmer.
The W.W. Cole show had NOTHING to do with the shows who used the name Cole in later years.

* Was there another Miles Orton in this very large family?
