Parley Baer first gained the lasting friendship of Mabel Stark in 1936, when he was writing publicity for the Barnes show, then quartered in Baldwin Park. The show that year also featured the cage acts of Terrell Jacobs and Bert Nelson. Parley turned out first-rate stories on Mabel, and their close relationship lasted for 32 years. Parley sold Ralph Edwards on honoring Mabel with an episode of THIS IS YOUR LIFE, on NBC Radio, in 1950. He was instrumental in Mabel's guest spot on WHAT'S MY LINE?, in 1961. They spent the major holidays together, and the Baer sisters grew up loving their "Auntie Mabel".
