My father said that Mr. Taylor was the Clyde Beatty of his day!

This shot provides a good look at the traditional flat-plaited, three-strand lash. Great pride was taken in creating these lashes, and the skill was carried on from the master European trainers. We recognize this is a circus lash, altogether different from the cowboy's bullwhip. I detailed the treatment of the strands and the specifics of the cuts in my article for Cherie Valentine's BACK YARD. The last one of these I cut was requested by Ivan Henry. Clyde Beatty opened the 1964 season with a spanking new lash of yellow latigo he'd cut at home, in Ventura, during the previous winter. I used it as a pattern for those I cut thereafter. Kind of nice to have the keys to the Beatty whipbox.
