This is how Mabel Stark got a bad nailing, in a Barnes show parade in Wyandotte, Michigan, in 1914. A town kid rode his horse too close to Mabel's lion wagon. The horse shied and panicked, then its steel shoes slid him under the cage wagon. The lions went nuts to get at the horse, and Mabel was in their way. With the help of prod poles from outside, she was able to get herself closed off in a back compartment, but not before she was badly mauled.

Kay Rosaire in Circus parade for Jaffa Shrine Circus , Altoona, Pa. 1990's as I recall.
I believe that's the late Mike Sandlofer, Sharon Vidbel's husband, driving the wagon.
Was he the father of the twins

Chic, no, not the father of Jenny and Susie. Benna is the lovely and talented daughter of Mike and Sharon, their only child.
