This is Jack Badall, longtime circus fan who was a regular visitor backstage at Jungleland. He was big on gorillas, and wrote a book on Gargantua.
The Hollywood gorilla in Republic's first serial, DARKEST AFRICA (1936), was played by sometimes B-Western star Ray "Crash" Corrigan. He co-starred with Clyde Beatty and Manuel King. This effort was re-released in 1949 as KING OF JUNGLELAND. (This title had no association with the facility in Thousand Oaks, which was then known as World Jungle Compound.) It's last incarnation was the 1966 feature-length release titled BATMEN OF AFRICA.
