Frank Phillips worked the "untameable lion" on Downie for a time. He was a master trainer who figured in the breaking-in years of Pat Anthony and Dick McGraw, during the World Jungle Compound era. He also was important, if forever unsung, as a training assistant to Mabel Stark. He was greatly liked for his congenial nature, and his quick willingness to share his experience. Some years after his passing, I benefited greatly from his ways when breaking in under Dick McGraw.
