This photo was taken in the San Diego Sport Arena in July 1979. The spec was called CIRCUS TOYLAND and the musical score featured music from Victor Herbert’s BABES IN TOYLAND plus a lot of other old-time music that would have been familiar to the original Ringling brothers. When Lou Jacobs was introduced, the vocalist sang the lyrics from MR. CLOWN, an old Kate Smith favorite:

Mr. Clown, Mr. Clown
You can take a frown and turn it upside down

Funny face, funny face, funny face, funny face
You make troubles go like bubbles into space

Come on and smile
You come to mellow
Smile and hear the world say Hello

Mr. Clown, Mr. Clown
You're the greatest show on earth right here in town

A hundred million people in a hundred million ways
Love a clown, don't let us down

Mr. Clown

I was there that year as one of the dancing dolls. It was Dave King at the organ, Keith Green as band leader, Bob Dover as Performance Director (same person?) Later was John Herriott. Yes, Carillo Brothers high wire. I believe this was the year Daniel Acosta fell. Rudy and Sue Lenz with their chimps, Wally Naughton bears, Flying Farfans, Bruce Gutilla, Dale Longmire, Duwayne Cunningham, man, many more as well as the incredible Lou Jacobs. Frosty l as boss clown. Antoinette Concello, Tuffy Genders, the beautiful Vicki Unis. Many, many more wonderful people.
