This would give us 1944, the season Emmett Kelly was featured in the expansive "Panto's Paradise" number. He felt greatly honored, but as we know, 1944 is forever overshadowed by the Hartford fire. It was also this year that Robert Ringling featured Ernestine Clarke and Lou Jacobs on the program cover. Ernestine was further honored in the photo spread of "Beauties of the Big Top", and in yet another article, "Cover Girl". Robert overdid his obsession with Ernestine when he embarrassed her with a private dressing top just outside the Back Door. To try to maintain a level among fellow performers, she moved Juanita Diesler in with her, and kept the top open as a social center for all visitors.

I believe this was 1955. I have movies taken in Sarasota in March 1955 showing this float under construction. They built them in WQ that year instead of NY.

In 1944, the payoff float was a dreamy cloud shaped thing pulled by about 10 elephants.
