Reed was Rex's neutered male
with a stiff back leg but a
good looking & working fellow
Reed's stiff leg was the right front. I visited Rex at the Lion Country in Grand Prairie, Texas, in '76, and they were giving him hell about Reed's pronounced limp. Rex argued that to keep the elephant alive, he had to keep him moving. I had worked at this park, and knew these very locals were blind-sided by their own ignorance. We've seen this too often--yokels demanding to tell a circus elephant man about elephants. They were tone deaf to Rex, and his departure was bitter.
I worked at that park when IAE owned it and it was called International Animal Park..collecting animals for a park in Japan.
Worked African male Abu and Bubbles and Asia..plus others there.
Roger, you are correct. Folk's can not imagine how common that is, remarkably even to this day.
