Lee Keener cut a sharp figure in the ring, and was a tedious caretaker of elephants. I knew him best when he had the Diano five, including Big Tommy. He came on several Castle dates in my time, and we hit it off from the beginning. Lee was fine as long as he had what he needed for the elephants and the townies kept their distance. If the expected nuisances arose, Lee could become colorful, and I was on his side when he did. When Tommy was bought by the Felds, Lee at first went with him, but I knew at once he would never cave to the arrogance from their front office. Soon, he was gone, and struggled through his last years to a sad end. I am grateful to say Lee Keener was a friend of mine.
