The full poster of this artwork was gifted to me by Dick McGraw, and hung above my son's crib in his first home, in Thousand Oaks, in 1969. This one is an original. Someone used pencil to date it as 1935. It shows age, but remains a cherished relic of Mr. Beatty's from Dick, our days at the Compound, and that little duplex on Crescent Way.

The big circuses back when

Promotions like the ones that were done about Clyde Beatty, were pretty common, compared to the promotions for star circus performers today. A good press agent was an absolute necessity to get plenty of publicity for the show. Roland Butler achieved great fame with his circus press releases and especially all of the art work that he did designing posters for different shows and letter heads on the stationary for various circuses.

Remember this guy? Wasn't he usually "unresponsive"?
