Saint Louis Zoo. Miss Jim, named for Supt. of Schools James Harper, was purchased from Wm. Hall in 1915 with pennies donated by school children (that's the connection.) I don't have one but there are still certificates around that acknowledge the child's donation to buy the elephant. "In thanks" Miss Jim gave free rides until the early 1940s. The photo is after 1941 because the Great House is in the background. My guess is the keeper is Bill Rost.
I know I am BIG. But, that is NOT me.
Make that the Great Ape House. The roof over the seats at the Chimpanzee Arena can be seen on the right.
