As noted, the Fans were hosted in 1955, the last year the Old Place was World Jungle Compound. At this time, two 20th Century-Fox execs bought in, thinking to compete with the brand-new Disneyland. Many parks then had to be somebody's "Land", so the title became Jungleland. Their efforts fell short within five years, and Louis Goebel allowed Heinz and Lutz Ruhe a go. These brothers flopped worse than the movie guys, and in 1961, Goebel took full ownership back again. In '65, he sold to Roy G. Kabat, his wife, Marie, and the carny concessionaire team of Thurston (Tex) and Ina Scarbrough. This cartel never paid Goebel a dime on the principal, and never touched an interest payment, even after the windfall money from DR DOLITTLE. They raked off the money, and turned their back on Goebel. He foreclosed. He was too old and tired to carry on, and we were auctioned off in October, 1969.
