Leitzel with her favorite dog, Boots. Very few ever got accommodations like this--a private dressing top within steps of the Back Door. Some 20 years later, during the Robert Ringling era, Ernestine Clarke was singled out for this star treatment, and given the Leitzel spot. This came much to her chagrin, as she never considered herself one to merit such attention. She recruited her flying act pal, Juanita "Neets" Diesler, to share the top, and made sure it became known as open and welcome to all showfolks. Robert permitted himself quite a thing for Ernestine, giving her the 1944 program cover, with Lou Jacobs, a featured portrait on the page dedicated to "Beauties of the Big Top", and got her those commercial ads for products like Camel cigarettes.
