Nope, not reindeer, they are elk
These wapiti (elk)could be nasty customers when the rut sets in. Among the deer tribe they are exceeded in size only by the moose with male wapitis like these weighing 700 or more pounds. They can be very aggressive. Yet, Christy handled them as lead stock.
I spoke with a trainer who took elk to various sportsmen's shows and she told me they castrate them once the antlers are fully developed. That keeps them from shedding the antlers and calms them down. Only problem is if they lose an antler another will not come in in its place.
