Arky's rough-and-ready stance here has to be born of his seasons commanding the great elephant herds, but serves to endear him to those who knew him in his Jungleland days. He had a sly, quiet smile behind his funny stories. His generous side came forth more than once when took me aside for valued inside pointers. His loss to us came just nine days before Mabel Stark's. He was buried in a uniform that may well have been this one, and lays in good company with Louis Roth and Cheerful Gardner, at Pacific Coast Showmans Rest.
